February 2022 may not contain any meteor showers or eclipses, but there are still several great viewing opportunities for the month that you can take advantage of from your own home.

New Moon

New Moon this month is on the 1st. This is a good time to pull out a pair of binoculars, a star-finder app (SkyView lite is free), and observe the night sky. The lack of moonlight will make observing other objects easier.

Full Moon

Full Moon in February takes place on the 16th. The best times for viewing the Moon are a few days leading up to and after the full Moon. Grab a pair of binoculars or a small telescope and look at the Moon for spectacular views of its craters.

Mercury at Morning Peak

Last month we saw the best views of Mercury in the evening, as well as Mercury retrograde. This month we will get to see the best views of Mercury in the morning. February 16th not only brings us a full Moon but also great views of Mercury. The best part? The full Moon will be setting as Mercury is out, keeping it from washing out the planet.
