Artemis 1 will be the first launch of NASA’s Artemis program, set to take us back to the Moon and send the first humans to Mars. Artemis 1 will orbit the Moon uncrewed after launching no sooner than May this year.

If you’re interested in taking part in the first Artemis mission, NASA has opened submissions to sign up for a free “boarding pass” to have your name put on a flash drive that will orbit the Moon with Artemis 1. This isn’t the first time NASA has done something like this. In 2020, the Mars rover Perseverance was sent to Mars with 3 fingernail-sized chips that had the names of almost 11 million people etched into them.

In order to be a part of the upcoming Artemis 1 Moon mission, you just need to sign up for free with your name and a pin code of your choosing. After signing up, you will receive a downloadable Artemis 1 “boarding pass” with your name on it to print and share. After the mission is over, you will be able to say that your name has orbited the Moon.

Artemis 1 will be the first flight test of NASA’s Deep Space Exploration Systems. This includes the Orion spacecraft, Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, and newly upgraded Exploration Ground Systems at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
