There is certainly the possibility for that. This study used both mice and human brain cells, although I believe human brain cells were the ones that performed the goal driven tasks discussed. (edit: this study used mouse and human brain cells for the same goal-driven tasks, with the human cells scoring slightly higher).
Most animal studies of brain cells involve putting human brain cells into the animal, however, so I’m not sure how well they would perform without the human element. (This is NOT the type of research Cortical Labs is doing currently) That being said, it isn’t out of the question to test animal neurons for the same purpose and see how they do!
